Standing, Sitting, Lying: Embodied Contemplation in the Qur’an

Ramadan is underway—take a breath, renew your intention, and let today be one small step toward a softer heart and a steadier spirit.

Quote: “Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying…” (Qur’an 3:190–191)

This passage is deeply embodied. Allah links remembrance with posture, and posture with reflection on creation.

How yoga helps you embody this teaching

Yoga can become a practice of tafakkur (contemplation): feeling the miracle of breath, the gift of balance, the mercy of rest. When you move slowly and remember Allah, the body becomes a classroom of signs—turning ordinary posture into reverent awareness.

Practice: Signs of Allah Flow

  • Standing: feel your feet grounded—Allah made the earth stable.
  • Sitting: lengthen the spine—Allah honored your form.
  • Lying down: hand on heart—Allah sustains you without your effort.
